My Current working practise

I am a process-driven artist, drawing much of my inspiration from the shapes, forms, and quiet rhythms found in the natural world. Pattern, repetition, erosion, and balance are recurring touchstones in my work, informing both how a piece is made and how it is experienced.
I grew up in a small fishing village in Cornwall, England, where an early respect for the power of the sea and the volatility of weather shaped my understanding of the world. In Newlyn, my hometown, I also became acutely aware of the dramatic and ever-changing qualities of light — an awareness shared by the generations of artists who were drawn there before me. The rugged Cornish coastline and its shifting light continue to inform the forms, textures, and surfaces found in my work today.
Although I now live in Aotearoa New Zealand, my connection to Cornwall remains deeply emotional and instinctive, extending far beyond family ties or familiar landscapes. Embedded within the ancient pagan sites, stone circles, and burial chambers of my homeland is a quiet, almost intangible presence — something felt rather than understood. This sense of ancestral memory has etched itself into my bones and fuels a persistent need to explore these ideas through sculpture.
My work is an introspective conversation, often centred on duality and relationship. I am particularly interested in the tension that exists between two forms — between intimacy and individuality — and in how negative space defines, separates, and connects them. Light and shadow play an essential role, revealing both the physical and the non-material: the seen and unseen, the solidity of form and the ethereal qualities of light and darkness that shape our experience of the world.
While the work is grounded in aesthetic form, equal importance is given to the relationship between light, space, and surface. Material choices and surface treatments are carefully considered to enhance inherent qualities, whether through subtle nuance or strong contrast, allowing each piece to hold a quiet energy and sense of presence.
